Ryan Garcia made racist and Islamophobic rants on the social platform X. Garcia, who was suspended for a year due to using a PED in a boxing match against Devin Haney, was expelled from World Boxing Council on Thursday.
Yesterday, Ryan Garcia’s family and the promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, condemned Garcia’s behavior. Later, the former WBC Interim Lightweight Champion issued a public apology.
In an interview with The Stomping Ground, Eddie Hearn (Chairman of Matchroom Boxing and the promoter of Haney) said the following regarding Ryan Garcia’s situation:
“I think he’s a [Ryan Garcia] decent person, but his head’s fallen off and he needs help ASAP. I noticed the first press conference for Haney-Garcia. I was looking at [Garcia] going, ‘What has happened to this bloke?’ I’ve met him a few times, and I looked at him like, ‘What has happened to this guy?’ Everyone was like, ‘No, he’s just selling the show, etc.
I saw him at the press conference on fight week, and it was even worse. He ended up performing pretty well in the fight… Now we’re seeing it wasn’t [an act], and it isn’t. Some of the stuff that was said yesterday is just kind of the end of the road with it now.”
