Ryan Garcia made racist comments on X’s Spaces platform. In a live audio conversation, Garcia admitted that he is anti-black and a member of an American white supremacist group. The 25-year-old also made some Islamophobic comments on X.
“I hate n–gers, I’m anti-black, I’m the KKK. Hey, let’s go bring George Floyd back to life and go k-ll that n–ger again’… I can’t believe this is who people were dying on a hill for?”
Last month, Ryan Garcia was suspended for a year for using the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine in a boxing match against Devin Haney. Garcia won the match via majority decision but was later changed to a no-contest. He was handed a fine of $1.1 million.
In an Instagram livestream, the former WBC interim lightweight champion said he wouldn’t apologize for the racist comments.
On X, Mauricio Sulaiman, the President of the World Boxing Council, announced that Ryan Garcia had been expelled from the organization.
“Exercising my authority as president of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization. We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan well being as he has declined multiple attempts for our help with mental health and substance abuse.”
Ryan Garcia’s parents issued the following statement regarding the former boxer’s disgraceful behavior (via ESPN):
“Our son has recently made statements that do not align with his, or our family’s, true character or beliefs. Our family unequivocally does not support any statements he has made regarding race or religion – these do not reflect who Ryan truly is and how he was raised. Those who know Ryan can attest to this fact. Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years and as a family we are committed to ensuring and encouraging that he receives the necessary help to navigate this very challenging time and address both his immediate and long-term well-being. We appreciate the continued support, prayers and compassion.”
