Randy Orton has been away from the squared circle for more than a year now. Orton last wrestled on the May 20th, 2022 episode of SmackDown. He was written off from WWE television after dropping the RAW Tag Team Titles to The Usos.
The Viper successfully underwent back fusion surgery last November. There were many updates circulated regarding Randy Orton over the past few months. WWE Hall of Famer Bob Orton said that doctors told his son to not compete in the squared circle. Matt Hardy said Orton told him that his body messed up doing the RKO move. Recently, Kurt Angle said that Orton has fully recovered from his back surgery.
Fightful Select has reported that WWE creative team hasn’t discussed any plans for Randy Orton’s comeback. They also noted that Orton isn’t cleared to compete yet.
“Sources within WWE creative said that as of this past week, Randy Orton had not been factored into WWE creative plans whatsoever. We’ve heard that he’s not yet cleared for in-ring training or action, and those we’ve spoken to say that there hasn’t been an extensive conversation about what the plans will be for Orton…
He has resumed lifting, and we’ve told he’s “huge” as a result. Orton has resumed working out, but hasn’t resumed bumping, and will likely be brought into the Performance Center to do so.”
A source told Fightful Select that Randy Orton won’t return at SummerSlam.
