Vince McMahon’s hush money scandal made headlines in the pro wrestling world once again. Last July, McMahon temporarily retired from WWE due to accusations. However, McMahon came back to the WWE headquarters earlier this year.
The Board of Directors investigated McMahon’s hush payments in June of last year. The special committee ended its investigation last November. The 77-year-old reimbursed $17.4 million to the company as of result. He also agreed to pay additional costs in relation to the investigation.
However, WWE revealed in an SEC filing that related government investigations remain ongoing. It was also noted that “on July 17, 2023, federal law enforcement agents executed a search warrant and served a federal grand jury subpoena on Mr. McMahon. No charges have been brought in these investigations.”
The Executive Chairman of WWE Vince McMahon sent an email to all the employees regarding the situation. McMahon denied the allegations. McMahon stated that he will focus on recovery from spinal surgery and TKO Group Holdings formation.
“In 2022, WWE formed a special committee to review allegations of misconduct against me. That review was concluded in November 2022 following an extensive investigation. Throughout this experience, I have always denied any intentional wrongdoing and continue to do so. I am confident that the government’s investigation will be resolved without any findings of wrongdoing. I am focused on completing the recovery process from my recent spinal surgery and on closing our transaction with Endeavor, which will create one of the preeminent global sports and entertainment brands.
Vince McMahon”
