Today, Roman Reigns has reached 1000 days as the Universal Champion. There’s no superstar prior to Roman Reigns in the modern era that held a title reign this long.
The Tribal Chief became the sixth longest-reigning champion in WWE history. He joined the club of Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, and Pedro Morales as the greatest champions in WWE history.
Roman Reigns is still the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and WWE has no intention of making him lose. Therefore, Reigns will surpass Pedro Morales’ 1,027 days title reign in 27 days from today and will become the fifth longest-reigning champion in WWE.
The Tribal Chief began his dominant championship reigns at the 2020 Payback, where he defeated The Fiend and Braun Strowman in a Triple Threat match to win the Universal Championship. Last year, Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar in a Winner Takes All match to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38.
Roman Reigns defended the title 28 times within 1000 days. It’s worth noting that Kevin Owens almost defeated Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing match at the 2021 Royal Rumble. During the match, the referee stopped the 10 count due to Paul Heyman being unable to unlock Reigns’ handcuff. Seth Rollins also defeated Roman Reigns via disqualification at the 2022 Royal Rumble.
