Two weeks ago on SmackDown, Kofi Kingston along with Xavier Woods interrupted Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, and LA Knight and demanded an Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania 39. The segment then ended up in a brawl following Karrion Kross’ arrival.
Kofi Kingston was supposed to compete in a Fatal Five-Way match to determine the No. 1 contender for Gunther’s IC Title at WrestleMania last week on SmackDown. But Kingston had been pulled from the match due to an injury sustained during the brawl. Xavier Woods replaced Kofi in that match but he wasn’t able to win.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that Kofi Kingston suffered a broken ankle during the brawl on the March 3rd episode of SmackDown.
On Twitter, Kofi Kingston confirmed that he is scheduled to undergo surgery for a broken ankle on Friday at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
“Tomorrow, we march forward and into the hands of the best in the world at what he does! Let’s get this ankle right! 👊🏾”
