Nate Diaz defeated Jorge Masvidal in a 10-round boxing match via majority decision on Saturday, July 6th. However, Diaz’s lawyer filed a lawsuit against Fanmio, the company that promoted the fight, on Monday for fraud and breach of contract.
The former UFC fighter stated in the lawsuit that he had agreed to fight Masvidal for $10 million. However, Diaz got paid only $1 million. Fanmio CEO Solomon Engel told Nate Diaz that the fight had not generated enough profit to pay the remaining $9 million.
Engel issued the following statement regarding the lawsuit:
STATEMENT FROM FANMIO INC. CEO SOLOMON ENGEL ON NATE DIAZ
“Nate Diaz has filed a frivolous lawsuit against Fanmio which claims that fraud and breach of contract were committed by Fanmio, yet neither has taken place. In fact, Diaz has already been paid seven figures in connection with the fight. I look forward to resolving this dispute through the appropriate process and am confident that justice will prevail. Making salacious and defamatory statements to the media in order to harm my family and I has only strengthened my resolve to ensure that the truth will triumph.” – Solomon Engel, Fanmio Inc. CEO
