Last month, Drew McIntyre reportedly suffered a ruptured eardrum during WarGames match at Survivor Series PLE. Despite being injured, McIntyre was able to compete at WWE Live Event on November 27th. During that show, McIntyre teamed with Kevin Owens, Ridge Holland & Butch to defeat The Bloodline in an Eight-Man Tag Team match.
McIntyre was supposed to team with Sheamus to face The Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles on the December 9th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. However, McIntyre was pulled from the show due to the severity of the injury.
WWE officials expected that Drew McIntyre will return in time for the MSG Event which is scheduled to take place on December 26th. However, McIntyre needs more time to recover from injury.
PWInsider has reported that The Scottish Warrior is still not medically cleared to compete at MSG Event. Therefore, the scheduled main event has changed to a Tag Team match.
“WWE sources have confirmed that the reason a change was made to their Madison Square Garden main event on Monday 12/26 for the annual post-Christmas event is that Drew McIntyre will not be cleared to return to the ring by the time the show takes place.
Up until earlier today, the expectation had been that McIntyre would return at the Smackdown live events starting Monday 12/26 and he would take part in an eight man tag team bout to headline those SD shows. Instead, the shows will now be headlined by The Usos vs. Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens.
We are told that as of this writing, McIntyre will not be appearing in any form on the live events next week. He last competed for the company at a live event on 11/27 in Portland, Maine.”
