Last August, CM Punk was involved in a backstage altercation with Jack Perry before defending the “Real World Championship” against Samoa Joe at All In.
AEW President Tony Khan appeared on the September 2nd episode of Collision in a pre-recorded segment, where he announced that he terminated CM Punk’s contract. Khan said that AEW’s disciplinary committee recommended that firing Punk was the best option.
Fightful Select reported that Megha Parekh, Chief Legal Officer of AEW at the time, wasn’t involved in the disciplinary committee. Vice President of Live Events and Touring Christopher Peck was part of the three-person committee, along with an outside attorney. They added that Bryan Danielson was the head of the disciplinary committee.
On Monday, Bryan Danielson posted the following on X:
“My dad always told me, “The right thing is often the hardest thing to do.”

It won’t always make the most money.
It won’t always be the most popular.
But it’s still the right thing.

Sean Ross of Fightful Select stated on X that “Danielson’s tweet that he posted yesterday is almost verbatim what he told talent and staff when the decision was handed down, and it was not an easy one to make.”
