This year’s SummerSlam premium live event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 5th at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. WWE hasn’t announced any matches for the show as of yet. However, several storylines are currently developing for SummerSlam.
Earlier this month, Seth Rollins defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at Money in the Bank PLE. In the closing moment, Damian Priest came to the ringside with his MITB briefcase when Balor attempted to hit his finisher, Coup de Grace on Rollins. It distracted Balor and allowed Rollins to retain the title.
Last week, Balor attacked Rollins when Priest attempted to cash in his MITB contract. However, Balor and Priest squashed their beef on this past Monday’s RAW.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer stated that the current plan is for Seth Rollins to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Finn Balor at SummerSlam.
“Finn [Balor] is wrestling Seth [Rollins]. That’s for SummerSlam. So I doubt they would put Finn in a match and have him not win it right before putting him into two championship matches so close together. They’re only a week apart. They announced Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov because Finn’s being protected right now. Finn’s beating everyone because they’ve got to get Finn back ready for Seth. I do know that the plan was that Finn’s going over [winning] constantly because they’ve got to rehab him for Seth because that’s at SummerSlam.”
The Judgment Day picked up the victory over Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens in a Six-Man Tag Team match on this week’s RAW. However, all of them were later involved in a backstage altercation. You can read more details by clicking here.
