Eric Young was released from WWE on April 15th, 2020 along with several other superstars as a part of budget cuts. Three months later, Young made his return to IMPACT Wrestling at Slammiversary. Last year, he exited IMPACT Wrestling after contract expiration.
Last November, Eric Young was re-hired by Triple H’s regime. However, Vince McMahon started involving the creative team in April. Therefore, Young decided to leave the promotion.
Fightful Select reported that Eric Young was requested his WWE release after the announcement of the Endeavor deal. Young was granted the release and his 90-day non-compete clause expired last week. Fightful added that Vince McMahon’s return was a major factor in Young’s WWE departure.
“Fightful Select has confirmed that Young asked for his release in April 2023, was granted it and finished out his 90-day no-compete clause just last week. We’re told by WWE sources that this request for release was right after the announcement of Endeavor’s deal with WWE, and this wasn’t a coincidence – Eric Young didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon after the Endeavor deal was announced and it was evident McMahon was back in the fold in an official capacity. WWE sources confirmed to Fightful that Young had cited moral, creative and personal reasons as why he didn’t want to work with Vince McMahon.”
Last night, Eric Young made his return to IMPACT at Slammiversary as Scott D’Amore’s mystery tag team partner. You can read the full results of the show by clicking here.
