Last November, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks made their return at Full Gear pay-per-view after being suspended from the company due to an infamous backstage brawl. The Elite then won the AEW World Trios Titles by defeating Death Triangle on the January 11, 2023 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Last night on AEW Rampage, Kenny Omega and Young Buck defeated A. R. Fox, Dante Martin, and Darius Martin to retain the AEW World Trios Title.
Several months ago, Dave Meltzer reported that Kenny Omega signed a four-year contract in 2019 which expired on February 1st. Recently, Meltzer stated that WWE is looking to sign a bigger free agent.
Fightful Select reported that Tony Khan could be extended Omega’s contract due to nine months of hiatus. Khan has the power to extend wrestlers’ contracts due to injuries which is standard in AEW deals. However, Omega has good legal representation, and a contract extension isn’t guaranteed to happen.
Fightful further noted that WWE is confident that they can sign Kenny Omega.
“There is chatter emanating from WWE of late, with several in the company believing they have a chance to land Kenny Omega.” Despite the AEW/WWE rivalry, we’re told that Omega had a positive relationship with WWE, and especially Triple H when discussing the potential of heading to the company in late 2018. Ultimately Kenny chose to go to WWE. Though there have been heavy AEW accusations regarding contract tampering, WWE sources told Fightful they don’t believe that was the case with Omega specifically.”
