This past Tuesday’s WWE NXT kicked off with the match between Blair Davenport and Nikita Lyons. Davenport picked up the victory after hitting a knee strike on Lyons.
In a backstage segment, Carmelo Hayes told Trick Williams that he booked the final spot in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. However, Williams said that he needed to focus on the upcoming NXT Title match. Hayes somehow managed to get Williams to agree to the tournament.
Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin defeated Gallus to advance to the next round in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Lyra Valkyria announced there will be a 20-woman Battle Royal and the final four will face each other in a Fatal 4-Way match to determine the No. 1 contender for her NXT Women’s Championship. The winner will face Valkyria for the title at Vengeance Day. Lola Vice along with Elektra Lopez came to the ring. Vice exchanged a few words with the NXT Women’s Champion. Vice and Lopez attacked Valkyria. Tatum Paxley came to Valkyria’s aid.
Josh Briggs defeated Ora Mensah.
Tony D’Angelo and Stacks defeated OTM to retain the NXT Tag Team Titles.
Cora Jade defeated Gigi Dolin.
Axiom and Nathan Frazier defeated Hank Walker and Tank Ledger to qualify for the next round in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
In the main event, Dragon Lee defeated Lexis King to retain the NXT North American Championship. Oba Femi then cashed in his NXT Breakout contract on Lee to become the new NXT North American Champion.
According to Nielsen via SpoilerTV, the January 9th episode of WWE NXT drew 722,000 viewers on USA Network and a 0.21 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
