Last night, CM Punk appeared on Monday Night RAW to address the fans after the Randy Orton vs. Dominik Mysterio match.
WWE hyped Punk’s appearance throughout the show. They announced that Punk’s return has been viewed over 71 million times across all of WWE’s social media platforms, making it the most social moment in company history.
CM Punk received a huge ovation from fans. Punk grabbed the microphone and said that he was finally back home. He said, “A wiseman told me that for me to get everything I need out of this place, I’d have to leave and come back. Hate to say the wiseman was right.” CM Punk mentioned his wife, AJ Lee, during the promo and said, “AJ is fabulous, and she sends her regards.” Punk then said, “Everybody has welcomed me back with open arms… Well, almost everybody.” At the end of his promo, he said to the camera, “I’m not here to make friends. I’m here to make money.”
PWInsider reported that CM Punk was supposed to do a longer promo last night. However, the Randy Orton vs. Dominik bout went too long. Therefore, the company cut Punk’s promo short.
“We are told that the initial plan was for a longer promo that would have given Punk more time, but timing issues led to the Randy Orton vs. Dominik Mysterio match to go longer than initially planned, so Punk’s time was cut. This is something that regularly happens on live WWE TV. So, it was a more abbreviated promo than initially planned.”
