Cody Rhodes is one of the co-founders of All Elite Wrestling. In 2019, Cody, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks started AEW and the company gained huge success & popularity in the early days. They are basically promoting professional wrestling which is completely opposed to WWE.
However, earlier this year, Cody Rhodes and the other EVPs were unable to be on the same page. As a result, Cody and his wife Brandi Rhodes left AEW.
The American Nightmare made a shocking return to WWE at WrestleMania 39, where he defeated Seth Rollins. Unfortunately, Cody Rhodes suffered a torn pec last May, which led to him being out of action for the rest of the year.
During an interview with Grapsody, AEW President Tony Khan discussed how Cody Rhodes’ departure affected AEW.
“It was, certainly, whenever you lose a star the caliber of Cody Rhodes, it’s going to have a major impact on your company and affect a number of different departments and number of different things in terms of the presentation and the backstage. Personally, I really like Cody and I know Cody really well and he was so involved in so many different facets with the start of AEW and what we were. When he left, that was a major challenge. Going into Revolution, we had so many great stories and I think it helped us and helped keep us strong that people were so invested in what was happening in AEW at the time.”
