Goldberg made his return to WWE in 2016 after 12 years away from the squared circle. His matches with Brock Lesnar received huge praise from the fans. However, the matches against Undertaker and The Fiend received a lot of criticism.
Most of the time, the WWE Hall of Famer competed in Saudi Arabia due to the crown prince being a huge Goldberg fan. Goldberg put over Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley, and Roman Reigns in his last run.
Recently, Fightful Select reported that Goldberg’s WWE contract expired at the end of 2022. The new WWE regime hasn’t discussed renewing his deal. Therefore, Goldberg officially became a free agent from January onward.
In an interview with the “Bet Las Vegas”, AEW President Tony Khan commented on Goldberg becoming a free agent.
“I have a lot of respect for Bill. I think Bill Goldberg is a great professional athlete and has had a great career in pro wrestling and is a very nice person.
He’s a household name in pro wrestling and certainly, that’s interesting to hear that he is a free agent. It’s something to follow and he’s one of the biggest names in wrestling and certainly will be something else to keep an eye on for us. We have so many great wrestlers in AEW and so many exciting things happening in AEW week to week, that it’s always an exciting time.
Bill is an exceptionally exciting name and one of the biggest names in the sport. Certainly, it’s a big thing for us to pay attention to. I would take notice of that and it is interesting.”
