Last month, Tom Aspinall retained the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship by defeating Curtis Blaydes via KO in round 1 at UFC 304. After the fight, Aspinall said that he wants to fight next for the undisputed title.
Aspinall recently stated that he will be the backup for the UFC Heavyweight Title match between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic in November.
Alex Pereira, who defeated Jiří Procházka to retain the Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 303, said he wants to move up to the heavyweight division and fight for the title.
On his YouTube channel, Tom Aspinall sent a message to Alex Pereira. Aspinall said that he has tremendous respect for Pereira. The interim UFC Heavyweight Champ also said he may defend the Undisputed Title against Pereira next year.
“The guy [Alex Pereira] is a superstar in the sport. Do whatever you want, but if we meet for sure, I think we’re both on the same page. It’s gonna be for an undisputed heavyweight title, so maybe see you next year at some point. As I say, I’ve got a lot of respect for Alex Pereira and what he’s done in the sport in a short amount of time, but if we’re gonna make it happen, it’s gonna be for the undisputed title, so see you there.”
