Earlier this year, a lot of rumors circulated on the internet about the match between The Rock and Roman Reigns. Many expected the match to take place at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles, California.
However, a few months before the show, The Great One informed WWE that he wasn’t in good shape to perform at WrestleMania. Therefore, the creative team picked Cody Rhodes as Roman Reigns’ opponent.
Today, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared on the Pat McAfee Show where he revealed that the match against Roman Reigns almost happened at SoFi Stadium. The Hollywood megastar also teased that he is willing to face The Tribal Chief next year in Philadelphia.
“All right, so The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns. Sofi Stadium, that was locked [in]… So, we got really, really close, but we couldn’t actually nail what that thing was. So we decided to put our pencils down and then we agreed, ‘Hey, listen, there’s a merger coming up. Eventually, that will happen. There’s WrestleMania in Philadelphia. I’m saying that’s a potential, too. I’m open.”
