Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE at the Men’s Royal Rumble match after suffering a torn pec in June. Rhodes won the Rumble match and earned an Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
A few weeks ago, Roman Reigns’ special counsel Paul Heyman and Cody Rhodes met each other face-to-face. However, Rhodes and Reigns never met in the ring following Cody’s return to WWE in 2022.
This past Monday on RAW, the American Nightmare defeated Chad Gable in a singles match. Following the bout, Cody Rhodes announced that he would return to tonight’s SmackDown to confront Roman Reigns. This will be the first time that Rhodes appearing on the blue brand since 2016.
On Thursday, The Tribal Chief issued the following statement regarding Cody Rhodes’ announcement.

WWE has announced that Rhea Ripley will face Liv Morgan tonight on SmackDown. As of now, no matches have been advertised for the show other than Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan.
