Two weeks ago, Roman Reigns retained his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship by defeating Sami Zayn at the Elimination Chamber premium live event.
Yesterday, the Twitter account of Coca-Cola Coliseum announced that the rematch between Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title will take place on March 4th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. However, this wasn’t the originally planned match for the show.
Roman Reigns was supposed to team up with Solo Sikoa to take on Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in a tag team match on March 4th. WWE also advertised the tag team bout on their social media.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained the reason why WWE canceled the tag team match. Meltzer stated that Sami Zayn didn’t reunite with Kevin Owens on WWE television yet and suddenly pairing them for a live event wouldn’t make sense.
On the February 20th episode of WWE RAW, Kevin Owens refused to join Sami Zayn and said the following.
“I’ve been fighting The Bloodline for months on my own, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s fine, and that’s the way I’m going to continue fighting them, okay? Because I still meant everything I said back in November after Survivor Series. I told you I was done with you, and that stands today, but hey, guess what? If you need help taking down The Bloodline, just ask your buddy Jay.”
The Bloodline-Sami Zayn storyline still unfolding weekly. The current plan is for Zayn and Owens to face the Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 39.
