Randy Orton last competed on the May 20th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where Orton and Matt Riddle were defeated by The Usos in a Winner Take All Tag Team Title Unification match.
Following the match, Orton and Riddle were attacked by The Bloodline in a brutal fashion. Orton was then written off from WWE television.
The Viper has suffered a serious back issue over a couple of years and WWE backstage officials believed that Orton will be absent until the end of December. However, the new report indicates that Randy Orton will be absent for much longer.
Fightful Select has reported that Randy Orton required a fusion in his lower back, which keeps him out of action for a long time. They also noted that Orton has undergone surgery. Fightful added that WWE has not any creative plan for Orton as of yet.
“Randy Orton required a fusion in his lower back that would keep him out of action for an extended period of time. The surgery has already happened, though we don’t know when. His wife had posted a picture of him around the operation, however. There were some in WWE that told us they’d be fortunate to have him back after such a long career and the significance of the injury. We’ve also heart from some in the company that says that when he was initially injured, Orton insisted he would eventually return. However, there are no creative plans in order for Randy Orton and no timetable for his return.”
