Oscar De La Hoya Fires Back At Canelo Alvarez For Refusing To Work With Turki Alalshikh

Oscar De La Hoya Fires Back At Canelo Alvarez For Refusing To Work With Turki Alalshikh

Turki Alalshikh had planned for a potential boxing match between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. However, Alalshikh later stated that he was no longer interested in the fight.

At the Alvarez vs. Berlanga press event, Canelo Alvarez said, “I respect Turki, but if he wants to work with me, it needs to be my way.”

On X, the Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority responded to Canelo Alvarez as follows:

“I heard what Canelo said that he respects me but doesn’t like the way we do business.
As for him respecting me, it doesn’t matter to me if he does or not.
As for the way I do business, I know why he doesn’t like it, because I only target big fights at fair prices, so of course anyone who likes easy fights won’t like that.
And I know how he feels after losing to Bivol, so he’s been looking for easier fights ever since. Also, I’m not the one who’s afraid of fighting Benavidez or Crawford.
Therefore, I knew he was wasting our time and making excuses with big amounts of money that can’t be paid.
So I’m continuing my way to make big fights that serve the boxing world, and he’s on his way to making easy show-only fights.🤷🏻‍♂️🥊”

The Unified Super Middleweight Champion responded to Alalshikh’s statement with two laughing emojis.

On Thursday, Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, posted a video clip on X with the title, “Clap Back Thursday time!!! Hey DUCKNELO 👏👏👏😂😂😂.” De La Hoya said Saudi authorities don’t want to deal with Alvarez because of the high asking price.

“So it turns out, I’m not the only one who thinks Canelo is an arrogant piece of sh-t. Turki Alalshikh recently revealed that Canelo refused to meet with him in person and isn’t entertaining any deals to be done with him. Why? Because he’s outpriced himself so much that the Saudis don’t even want to deal with him. And it’s all because he will do anything not to fight David Benavidez. Look, Turki is trying to make the best fights that everybody wants to see, and Canelo continues to take the fights that nobody wants to see.”

Canelo Alvarez is set to defend his Unified Super Middleweight Championship against Edgar Berlanga on September 14th, which will go head-to-head with UFC 306. De La Hoya said that the fight would not make a profit.

“And as I said weeks ago, this fight will not do well on Sept. 14. Not only because the matchup is OK, but because they’re going up against the UFC’s debut at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Now that’s a spectacle that everyone and their mother has been waiting to see since it opened up about a year ago. And who is funding it and making it all happen? Turki Alalshikh. Canelo, you’re really making the wrong enemies. But you know what? F–k you.”
