Leon Edwards (22-3-1) is scheduled to defend his Welterweight Championship against Belal Muhammad (23-3-1) on Saturday, July 27th at UFC 304 in Manchester, England.
Last month, Islam Makhachev (26-1), who successfully retained the Lightweight Championship against Dustin Poirier at UFC 302, challenged Edwards’ title. In an interview with TalkSport, Edwards was asked if he welcomed Makhachev’s challenge.
UFC Welterweight Champion expressed his interest in a potential fight but also said he and Makhachev have much to do in their respective divisions. Edwards added that his first goal was to win the title and now he wants to be No. 1 in the pound-for-pound rankings.
The 32-year-old also said that he wants to move up and fight for the Middleweight Championship. Dricus du Plessis (21-2) is the current Middleweight Champion who is set to face Israel Adesanya (24-3) at UFC 305.
