Last night, Sami Zayn faced Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship on RAW. During the match, Damian Priest pushed Zayn from the top of the turnbuckle when the referee was distracted by Rhea Ripley. Kevin Owens then attacked Priest. The referee ejected Owens, Priest, and Ripley from ringside.
In the closing moment, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley returned to the ramp, dragging Owens. Dominik then managed to pick up the victory over Zayn via roll-up pinfall to retain the NXT North American Title. Later, WWE aired footage of Owens getting medical treatment.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that Kevin Owens is legitimately dealing with a rib injury.
“It’s a fractured rib. So the story, he’s actually been working on it for a while, and it was just one of those things where they were waiting for a time to finish up with everything he’d finish up…. He’s gonna get rest. I don’t know how long, and I don’t know what the status of the Tag Team Titles are. I’m sure that that will probably all be addressed in the next couple of days, but it was legit. He’s been working on a legit injury. So that’s the basic gist of the story there.”

WRKD Wrestling and Fightful also confirmed that Kevin Owens’ injury is legit. Owens last competed on the July 17th episode of WWE RAW, where he and Sami Zayn retained the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles against Damian Priest & Dirty Dominik.
