Last week, Mick Foley announced he is parting ways with WWE, citing its support of former President Donald Trump as the main reason. Foley explained that he had been concerned for months about WWE’s close relationship with Trump, particularly given the administration’s treatment of immigrants and marginalized communities. The final straw, he said, came after Trump’s comments following the death of Rob Reiner, which Foley described as “incredibly cruel.”
As a result, Foley declared he will no longer make appearances for WWE while Trump remains in office and will not sign a new Legends deal when his current contract expires in June. Despite this, Foley emphasized his love for WWE and gratitude for the opportunities the company provided.
Foley’s longtime friend and former WWE superstar Kane commented on the situation during a Newsmax interview. Kane said he was not surprised by Foley’s stance, noting that while he disagrees politically, he respects Foley’s right to speak his mind. He added that civil disagreement is part of living in a free country and expressed a wish that such respect for differing opinions would be more common outside wrestling as well.
“Well, certainly it’s no surprise. I know where Mick is at politically, and we’ve had our discussions about politics. We’ve always been able to keep them civil, and I wish that could happen more on public platforms altogether. One thing is, we live in a country where we are free to disagree about things. I think Mick is wrong, but nevertheless, he’s entitled to his opinion. I will defend his right to say that, even if I do think he’s wrong. And that’s the beauty of America. I wish that would kind of be all over the place, as opposed to just in wrestling.”
