John Cena last competed on the December 30th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where he and Kevin Owens defeated Roman Reigns & Sami Zayn in a Tag Team match. Cena then went to Australia for filming his new movie “Ricky Stanicky.”
Earlier this month, the Ricky Stanicky movie production was wrapped up. Therefore, John Cena was able to make his return to WWE on the March 6th episode of Monday Night RAW. In that show, Cena was interrupted by the United States Champion Austin Theory.
The 25-year-old star then offered Cena a Unites States Title match at WrestleMania 39. Cena initially rejected the offer with a fiery promo. However, Cena later accepted the challenge.
Last week, WWE announced that the match between John Cena and Austin Theory for the United States Championship will kick off night one of WrestleMania on Saturday, April 1st at the SoFi Stadium.
The 16-time World Champion posted two photos on Twitter and hinted that he will win the US Title like he did at WrestleMania 20.
“First match, #WrestleMania 20, @TheGarden.
First match, #WrestleMania 39, @SoFiStadium.
Then. NOW. Forever.”
