Last year, Gunther became the Intercontinental Champion by defeating Ricochet on the June 10th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Gunther is currently holding the IC Title for 344 days and he is also the longest-reigning IC Champion in the 21st century.
The Ring General made his RAW debut this past Monday after being drafted to RAW during the 2023 WWE Draft. According to WWE’s internal roster page, he is listed as the no.1 heel on the red brand. However, Roman Reigns is the dominant heel in WWE. Many fans are also waiting for a potential match between Gunther and Reigns.
In an interview with Mike Jones on DC101, The Ring General was asked about a potential match against The Tribal Chief. Gunther stated that he is in no hurry to start a storyline with Roman Reigns.
“I think there’s no rush with that. I think he’s doing his thing right now and I’m very focused on doing my thing. I didn’t really have an urge to seek out that confrontation yet but, like you said, down the line it’s one of the matches fans are looking forward to.”
Gunther is scheduled to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Mustafa Ali at Night of Champions PLE.
