Yesterday, Gunther successfully retained his Intercontinental Championship by defeating Matt Riddle at Money in the Bank. After the match, Drew McIntyre made his return after two months away from the squared circle and hit Gunther with a Claymore Kick. The Scottish Warrior then posed with the Intercontinental Title.
Recently, several news outlets reported that Drew McIntyre isn’t on good terms with WWE. According to reports, McIntyre’s WWE contract is set to expire earlier next year.
During the Money in the Bank post-show press conference, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H said that McIntyre took time off due to an injury. Triple H denied the reports of McIntyre had issues with WWE management. The King of Kings hopes McIntyre will stay with WWE much longer.
PWInsider reported that Drew McIntyre still has not signed a new contract with WWE. They also noted that the negotiations for a new deal haven’t started yet.
“We are told by two sources that McIntyre’s WWE contractual status has not changed and the two sides have not yet come to terms on a new deal or extension, so his contract is still due to expire in early 2024. The two sides have yet to even begin discussions on that deal, partially because there’s so much time left.”
Drew McIntyre last competed against Sheamus and Gunther in a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39, where The Ring General pinned McIntyre to retain the title.
