Earlier this year, Goldberg competed against Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber PLE. He was unable to win the title. The WWE Hall of Famer then disappeared from WWE television.
Most of the time Goldberg received championship opportunities when he wrestled matches under Vince McMahon’s regime. However, Goldberg’s future with the company is uncertain due to Triple H controlling the WWE product since last July.
Last week, there was a rumor circulated on social media that Goldberg signed a new contract that included five matches within a two-year period. According to the rumor, Goldberg will be scheduled to face three superstars with whom he never wrestled before.
However, Fightful Select debunked the rumor and stated that Goldberg hasn’t signed a new deal yet. They also noted that Goldberg’s current contract is set to expire end of December. This means Goldberg would be a free agent from next year.
“Last week, rumors circulated that Goldberg had signed a new WWE contract that would see him with a two year deal, with five matches guaranteed, and three matches to be against new talent that he hasn’t faced. In addition, the report stated the shows would be mainly Saudi/WrestleMania matches.
However, those close to him say not so fast. Specifically they said that would be news to his reps that negotiate those kinds of deals. Goldberg’s current WWE agreement runs through 2022, but there are no matches remaining on it.”
