Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes and his wife stepped down from their AEW duties and left the company after failing to negotiate a new deal. At the time, it made huge headlines in the pro wrestling world because Cody was one of the founders of the company.
The American Nightmare then made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, where he defeated Seth Rollins. Rhodes and Rollins’ storyline was continued for the next two months. Unfortunately, Cody Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral tendon ahead of their advertised Hell in a Cell match back in June.
Despite being injured, Rhodes was able to compete in the match. He was then written off from WWE television to undergo surgery. Cody Rhodes is now feeling far better but he said that doctors did not give him a timeline for his in-ring return.
Last month, CM Punk and The Elite were involved in a backstage fight after Punk blamed Adam Page, Kenny Omega, and Young Bucks during AEW All Out press conference. AEW became a chaotic place since the incident and a lot of backstage dramas happened in the past few weeks.
There were a lot of rumors also circulated on social media about Cody Rhode’s AEW departure after the All Out incident. Some fans thought Rhodes left AEW because of the Elite and CM Punk. Today, the American Nightmare explained why he left AEW.
“I didn’t leave because of the Bucks/Kenny. I’m forever bonded to those men over what we created and I remain very proud of it, and I didn’t leave because of/or have issues with Punk. We got along. Not money, not booking, just a personal issue and my wanting to go for the big one.”
