WWE held the SuperShow Summer Tour live event on June 22nd at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. Cody Rhodes successfully retained his Undisputed WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura in the main event of the show. After the match, The American Nightmare announced that he suffered two broken ribs during the Bloodline beatdown on SmackDown.
Rhodes faced Solo Sikoa in the main event of the June 21st episode of SmackDown. However, the match ended in a disqualification due to Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa’s interference. The Bloodline continued their beatdown on Rhodes. Randy Orton and Kevin Owens attempted to make the save, but Jacob Fatu, who made his WWE debut, attacked all three of them. The former MLW Champion dropped Owens on the steel step and speared Orton through a barricade.
Fatu delivered a Samoan Splash onto the Undisputed WWE Champion from the top rope through the announce table.
