Last night on SmackDown, Ronda Rousey defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Raquel Rodriguez. Rodriguez earned the championship opportunity by winning a Gauntlet Match last week on SmackDown. Rousey targeted Rodriguez’s injured arm throughout the match. In the closing moment of the match, Rousey put an armbar submission on Rodriguez and retained the title.
A few moments later, Charlotte Flair made her shocking return and then challenged Ronda Rousey to a match for the SmackDown Women’s Title. The Baddest Woman on the Planet accepted the challenge.
In the closing moment of the match, Charlotte speared Rousey. However, Rousey reversal the move and attempted to put an armbar on Charlotte. Charlotte then managed to put a roll-up pin on Rousey to win the SmackDown Women’s Title.
During an interview with Megan Morant on WWE Digital Exclusive, Charlotte Flair commented on the surprise WWE return and winning the SmackDown Women’s Title.
“I’m a little speechless right now. 2022 has just been the best year of my life. Even going back to the beginning I was able to the beginning, I was able to wrestle in Saudi Arabia for the first time. I beat Ronda Rousey for the first time at WrestleMania, which was always a bucket list. Then I got married, traveled the world with my husband, and then ending the year where I belong, where I’m home…it’s picture-perfect, a fairytale. This was the time I’ve been away since 2015, so to come back, before my music hit, I was like, ‘Do I know how to be that serious?’ Like for eight months…I never take off the crown, but I just let it chill [when I was away]. I’m just honored to be back and pay back Ronda. I don’t know if she thought I was going to let the last match, the ‘I Quit’ Match, go. When I went home, I thought to myself, ‘I’m a lot of things to a lot of different people, but the one thing I’m not is I’m not a quitter.’ I just waited until the right opportunity, the right time, and I’m 14-time. It’s crazy.”
