Alexander Volkanovski (26-4) last competed at UFC 298, where he lost the UFC Featherweight Championship to Ilia Topuria by second-round knockout.
Recently, Alexander Volkanovski appeared on Israel Adesanya’s YouTube channel, where he said that UFC plans to do Max Holloway vs. Ilia Topuria for the title at UFC 306 in September. Volkanovski added that he started training and regrets informing UFC that he doesn’t want to fight until later this year.
“They’re probably going to do Max [Holloway] and Ilia in September. Because I told the UFC I didn’t want to fight until later in the year. Like I said, I’m really committed to that in my head. Now I started training, I’m like, I wish I didn’t tell them that.”
The former UFC Featherweight Champion also said that he wants an exciting lightweight fight against Charles Oliveira (34-10-1) or Dustin Poirier (30-9-1).
“I’m in a position now where if they do that and they want me to fight maybe in March or something or April… I want an exciting fight at lightweight, you know? Charles Oliveira. I did call out Poirier after [his last fight]… He’s obviously a big, fun fight. There’s still history there with mutual opponents we’ve fought, he used to fight at featherweight.”
