In the past few years, WWE management has considered NXT as a developmental brand for rookies. However, WWE President Nick Khan has wanted to make NXT the third brand of the promotion. As of now, every member of the management team is on board with Khan’s idea.
The New Day, AJ Styles, Natalya, Johnny Gargano, and many others appeared on NXT. This past Tuesday, Seth Rollins retained the World Heavyweight Championship against Bron Breakker in the main event of WWE NXT. This week’s NXT viewership and ratings have increased due to Rollins’ appearance.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer stated that WWE has discussed sending Ronda Rousey to NXT for a singles match or Rousey and Shayna Baszler to defend the Women’s Tag Team titles on NXT.
“There are plans for more major stars to work NXT like Rollins did this week. One name that was at least talked about was Rousey, or perhaps even having Rousey & Baszler defend the women’s tag titles there. But the goal is to use the main roster stars to increase the ratings, and the Rollins experiment was a huge success, so when something works in wrestling the idea is that you usually follow up on it.”
