WCW was the first and only pro wrestling promotion that defeated WWE in viewership for 83 weeks. The company was sold to Vince McMahon in 2001 due to bad creative decisions and financial struggles.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Vice produced a new docuseries named “Who Killed WCW.” The first episode (Where The Big Boys Play) aired on Tuesday, June 4th at 10:00 p.m. ET on Vice TV. Episode 2 (The Streak Is Over) and episode 3 (New Blood) will air on June 11th and June 17th respectively.
Tony Schiavone was the lead announcer for WCW’s flagship show, Monday Nitro, from the 1990s until the company closed in 2001. On the What Happened When podcast, Schiavone stated that he won’t watch the new WCW docuseries.
“I have watched some of the ‘Dark Side of the Ring,’ but I won’t watch that. Because I know what it is — it’s a hatchet job. I see these people talking to the camera in ‘Dark Side of the Ring,’ and I’m going, ‘What are we doing? Have some freaking respect for the business that paid you a lot of money. To me, that tells me all I need to know about those producers, and that’s my problem with it, and that’s the only thing.”
