Pat McAfee joined WWE in 2018. McAfee was then moved to SmackDown as a color commentator along with Michael Cole in 2021. Since then, he showcased his impressive commentary skill on the blue brand.
The 35-year-old received huge praise from the fans and backstage officials for his dedication. Apart from doing commentary, he also competed on WWE television multiple times.
However, last September McAfee signed a contract with ESPN and became a full-time member of the “College GameDay” broadcast team until the football season was over.
During Pat McAfee’s hiatus, WWE changed its announcing team. As a result, WWE NXT’s Wade Barret replaced McAfee in the SmackDown commentary team. At this point, many fans expect McAfee’s return due to football season was over.
Fightful Select reported that WWE superstars are hoping that Pat McAfee will make his return soon. They also noted that a superstar heard McAfee’s name during the Royal Rumble creative discussion.
“Several talent were speculating that they believe Pat McAfee could be back soon, with one saying they’d heard his name mentioned for the Royal Rumble.”
