AEW World Champion CM Punk suffered a foot injury during a six-man tag team match on the June 1st episode of AEW Dynamite. Punk then appeared on AEW Rampage and announced that he was injured and would be out of action for some time.

However, Punk was not relinquished his AEW World Title. Instead, the company held an Interim AEW World Championship match at Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Jon Moxley won that bout and became the Interim AEW World Champion by defeating NJPW wrestler Hiroshi Tanahashi. When Punk returns, Moxley will be supposed to face Punk for the Undisputed AEW World Championship.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed CM Punk’s return timeframe.

Punk probably, I don’t know when the time frame is, and I think that they are trying not to let you know, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be back… You know, surgery for a broken foot, it’s a couple of months. But it’s not like it’s six months, you know, so he probably won’t be that long.
