UFC 307 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 5 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the main event, Alex Pereira will defend his Light Heavyweight championship against Khalil Rountree Jr.
UFC received a lot of criticism from fans for giving a title shot to Rountree Jr., who is ranked No. 8 in the division. On his YouTube channel, Pereira talked about his upcoming fight against Rountree Jr.
“Well, my people, let’s talk a little bit about my next fight. Against Khalil [Rountree Jr.] I was also a bit surprised when they offered him; I honestly thought it would be [Magomed] Ankalaev. But I’m here to fight. A lot of people say he is 8th ranked; I don’t know, but they are saying it messed up the UFC ranking a lot, but I think he is a guy showing work; it is going to be a good fight. For us both, we both like to strike. Not just good for us, but for who is watching, Like I said, I thought it was Ankalaev, but I think the organization sees it is a guy who will give a good fight. They are doing all this for you guys. To please you guys. Same way how I wasn’t ranked, things happened very fast. Look at what you guys get whenever I fight. So I think they are thinking the same thing about Khalil, giving him this opportunity. Ranking doesn’t matter. What matters is the work he has been doing, giving a show. I think it will be a good fight.
For the people who want to poison or talk bad about the UFC are taking advantage of this. But it’s the same thing I’ll repeat here: when they did it to me, I wasn’t ranked; I was quickly ranked; you saw it wasn’t fake. Put me to dispute the belt very fast. Think good; don’t listen to people who just want likes. Some reporters like to talk bad about the UFC because they don’t have the opportunity to be with the organization. They prefer to talk bad. Don’t go with their ideas; listen to what I’m telling you; we will deliver a good fight for you guys.”
