In 2014, CM Punk walked out from WWE and announced that he was “never ever” returning to WWE. Seven years later, Punk made his AEW debut on the August 20th, 2021 episode of AEW Rampage.
However, Punk’s time in All Elite Wrestling was shortened. Last September, he was involved in a huge backstage brawl during the All Out post-show media scrum. Since the incident, CM Punk was suspended from All Elite Wrestling.
A few months ago, there was a rumor circulated that Tony Khan and Punk were in talks regarding a buyout of the remaining years of his contract. However, as of this writing, Punk still getting paid by AEW.
On the “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast, WWE’s Senior Vice President of Live Events, Road Dogg said that CM Punk’s WWE return is happening someday.
“Never say never with these guys, they will give you a second chance. [WWE] will give you an opportunity if it’s business savvy, and bringing him back might be. The reason it might be is because he’s a needle mover.”
Road Dogg also said that CM Punk is “still a draw”.
“He’s got another run in him because he’s what we call in the industry a ‘needle mover.”
