Pete Dunne made his WWE NXT debut on the February 22nd, 2017 episode of NXT. Three months later, Dunne won the NXT UK Championship and held the Title for 685 days.
Last year, Pete Dunne arrived on the WWE main roster on the March 11th episode of SmackDown as “Butch.” He was teamed up with Sheamus & Ridge Holland and called themselves “The Brawling Brutes.” The faction still receives a huge ovation from the fans.
WrestleVotes told GiveMeSport that Triple H had to cancel Butch’s plan to become “Pete Dunne” due to The Brawling Brutes’ popularity. However, they also noted that Butch will return to his previous Bruiserweight gimmick by the end of this year.
“Absolutely, I was told that it’s in the works. When Hunter came back, I was told that Pete Dunne was due to become Pete Dunne, but somebody said, to wait because The Brawling Brutes were catching on. When Pete Dunne returns, it won’t be as a member of the Brawling Brutes. I’m sure he’ll be back by the end of this year.”
