Last week, Santos Escobar qualified for the finals of the United States Championship Invitational by defeating AJ Styles, Butch, and Grayson Waller in a Fatal 4-Way match.
Last night, Rey Mysterio defeated LA Knight, Sheamus, and Cameron Grimes in a Fatal 4-Way match to advance to the finals of the tournament. Rey and his protégé Escobar are scheduled to face each other in the US Title Invitational finals next week.
WWE is yet to announce when the United States Title match will take place. Many speculate the bout will happen at SummerSlam. However, WWE has often held championship matches on the go-home editions of SmackDown.
Wrestling Observer reported that Austin Theory will face the winner of the US Title Invitational on the future episode of SmackDown. SummerSlam is set to take place on Saturday, August 5. Therefore, the bout maybe takes place on August 4.
