Shelton Benjamin started his pro wrestling career by joining WWE’s development territory Ohio Valley Wrestling in 2000. Benjamin then teamed with Brock Lesnar and won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship on three occasions.
Benjamin made his debut on the WWE main roster on the December 26th, 2002 episode of SmackDown, where he and Charlie Haas joined Kurt Angle as “Team Angle”. Kurt Angle then fired Benjamin and Hass from the Team Angle faction. Later, Benjamin and Hass called themselves “World’s Greatest Tag Team” and they won the WWE Tag Team Title multiple times.
Shelton Benjamin’s solo career began in 2004 after he was drafted to Monday Night RAW. Benjamin wrestled against Triple H, Ric Flair and many others. He won his first singles championship by defeating Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Title at Taboo Tuesday in 2004.
In 2010, WWE released Shelton Benjamin from his contract. He then competed in numerous wrestling promotions. Seven years later after the WWE release, Shelton Benjamin made his return to WWE on the August 22nd, 2017 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
In 2020, Shelton Benjamin joined Bobby Lashley and MVP called themselves “The Hurt Business.” Cedric Alexander later joined the faction. However, Bobby Lashley attacked both Benjamin and Alexander after they lost to Drew McIntyre in a 2-on-1 Handicap match. Since then most of the time Benjamin competed on WWE Main Event.
Today is Shelton Benjamin’s 20th anniversary with the company. Therefore, WWE posted the following video package on behalf of “The Gold Standard”. In the video clip, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels said Shelton Benjamin has a guaranteed spot in the Hall of Fame.
