Vince McMahon started changing plans since he was involved in the creative team last April. Some superstars in the company have been frustrated with last-minute changes and in some cases, talents were involved in backstage arguments. However, plans for last night’s SmackDown had to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances.
PWInsider reported that some superstars who were booked for last night’s SmackDown were pulled from the show due to medical reasons. They didn’t provide any specific name.
“The word making the rounds at Smackdown is that the reason there were some changes to the scheduled plans [last night] is that there were talents pulled for medical reasons. One version making the rounds is that there were COVID positives or talents who were at least in direct contact with someone who tested positive.”

Charlotte Flair defeated Iyo Sky in singles match on SmackDown. Asuka ambushed Charlotte after the match. PWInsider noted that Charlotte wasn’t supposed to compete at the show. The company originally planned Iyo Sky vs. Zelina Vega for the event.
“Charlotte Flair was not originally slated to wrestle [last night]. The early plans for the show had IYO SKY vs. Zelina Vega scheduled but when the decision was made to change the segment, Flair was then moved into a match.”

Yesterday, WWE advertised that Asuka’s SummerSlam opponent would be announced on SmackDown. However, the company stopped advertising the segment on its website a few hours before the show was broadcast. The Empress’ challengers were then announced on WWE’s social media.
“WWE was not going to initially announce Asuka’s Summerslam oppponents on social media. The initial plan was to have them revealed in the ring during a segment with Adam Pearce.”
