Gunther is having an impressive championship reign ever since he won the Intercontinental Title from Ricochet. Gunther last defended his IC Title on the December 16th episode of SmackDown, where defeated SmackDown World Cup winner Ricochet.
Last night on SmackDown, Imperium came to the ring and did a promo. They bragged about Gunther’s dominant championship reign. Braun Strowman then interrupted them and demanded an Intercontinental Championship opportunity. Gunther refused Strowman’s demand. Imperium then attacked Strowman.
A few moments later, Braun Strowman’s recent tag team partner, Ricochet came to the ring with a chair. Ricochet was not supposed to hit members of Imperium with a chair. However, he botched the planned spot and accidentally hit a chair shot on Gunther’s head. The referees and backstage officials immediately checked The Ring General.
PWInsider reported that Gunther seemed fine after a brutal chair shot.
