Edge made his return at the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match after nine years away from the squared circle due to a neck-related injury. The Rated R Superstar worked with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Austin Theory, and many others in his second run.
WWE Hall of Famer last competed on the July 7th episode of SmackDown, where he defeated Grayson Waller. Edge appeared on this past Friday’s SmackDown and challenged Sheamus to a match for his 25th anniversary.
The upcoming episode of SmackDown is scheduled to take place at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario. Last year, Edge announced that he wanted to retire in Toronto. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer speculated that Edge will retire from wrestling after this week’s match with Sheamus.
“There’s a big thing here. A year ago, Edge had said he was gonna retire at the (2023) summer show in Toronto. And Ron Hutchinson, who is Edge’s trainer, and has known Edge for 30 years, he basically said that this is Edge’s last match. They certainly did not (build it up like that). But that was interesting where he said it’s probably – it’s most likely Edge’s last match.”
