Alex Pereira Explains Why He Agreed To Defend His Title At UFC 303 On Short Notice

Both the main event and co-main event changed at UFC 303 due to Conor McGregor and Jamahal Hill sustaining injuries. Dana White announced on Friday that Brian Ortega will fight Diego Lopes in the co-main event, while Alex Pereira will defend his Light Heavyweight Championship against Jiri Prochazka in the main event.

On Instagram, Alex Pereira explained why he agreed to defend his title on short notice. Pereira stated that he is one of the biggest stars in UFC because he takes risks that no one is willing to take.

“I understand that this fight is very close and there may be difficulties with the lead up time BUT if there is somebody that can make this happen it is me! POATAN!

This is why I am one of the biggest names in the UFC Alex Pereira!!! I take risks that not one other person would be willing to take but I know I have my ancestors with me. The spirits are with me and I’m ready for it all.”

Poatan last competed at UFC 300, where he retained the Light Heavyweight Championship by defeating Jamahal Hill via knockout in round 1.
