A civil lawsuit has been filed against AEW and Jon Moxley by longtime production crew member Christopher Dispensa. The lawsuit alleges negligence by both AEW and Moxley and accuses Moxley of civil assault and battery during an episode of AEW Dynamite on May 10, 2023.
Dispensa, who worked with AEW via Broadcast Service Group since 2019, claims Moxley unexpectedly shoved him during a match involving Kenny Omega. He says this resulted in severe neck and shoulder injuries, requiring multiple surgeries. According to the lawsuit, Moxley went off-script, violently pushing Dispensa to the ground while retrieving a screwdriver, causing unplanned harm.
The complaint argues AEW failed in its duty to protect production staff and was negligent in hiring and supervising Moxley, alleging AEW ignored a supposed history of disciplinary issues. However, AEW insiders reportedly dispute this, calling Moxley a respected “locker room leader” with no known behavioral problems.
Dispensa’s legal team says AEW management never formally acknowledged the incident. Although Dispensa spoke with AEW’s medical and psychological staff that night, he did not file an official report due to touring commitments. He also met with Tony Khan months later about job opportunities, but never discussed the injuries during those talks.
The lawsuit seeks damages of over $25,000 for medical expenses, lost wages, permanent injuries, emotional distress, and more. AEW has declined to comment on the pending litigation. A court hearing is scheduled for August 29, while Moxley is still slated to defend his title at AEW All In on July 12.
